NFL Predictions

I saw josh put up his predictions in his blog. So. I decided to do the same on here instead of just commenting on his. I'm pretty much just going to put up word for word the predictions I wrote in my appliancebowl 3 fantasy league, but I wanted to see what the other people of the pancake thought who weren't involved in the fantasy league. Here they are, and a small glimpse of a reason behind them.

NFC East
1.Eagles
2.Giants
3.Redskins
4.Cowboys
*Cowboys won't get it done on defense, and who exactly does romo have as a weapon besides witten? Giants make the wild card because of their great defense and running game.

NFC North
1.Vikings
2.Packers
3.Bears
4.Lions
*Watch for the Packers to make some noise. I wouldn't be surprised if they beat out the Vikings for the NFC North title.

NFC South
1.Falcons
2.Saints
3.Panthers
4.Buccaneers
*I don't trust Delhomme or their running game this season in comparison to last season. Saints offense with Drew Brees will get them into the playoffs this season.

NFC West
1.Seahawks
2.49ers
3.Cardinals
4.Rams
*With the loss of Edge, the Cardinals have a zero running attack, and their defense is too inconsistent for them to have a winning season. Seahawks come back to form with a healthy Hasselbeck and newly signed Houz-ur-mama. Watch out for Julius Jones.

AFC East
1.Dolphins
2.Patriots
3.Bills
4.Jets
*The wild cat offense isn't going to surprise anyone this season, but a healthier ronnie brown 2 years removed from ACL surgery is going to make all the difference. Brady coming back is a big boost for the Patriots, but not enough to win the division. He's still got to get comfortable in the pocket again, and that could take the first half of a season.

AFC North
1.Steelers
2.Ravens
3.Bengals
4.Browns
*Maybe I'm biased, but the steelers have a very good chance of repeating, with very little turn-over from last seasons roster. The ravens make the playoffs since they'll still have an amazing defense and flacco has all the experience he needs.

AFC South
1.Colts
2.Texans
3.Jaguars
4.Titans
*He's peyton manning for crying out loud! The titans drop off the map as contenders because of the big loss on defense and I don't think LenDale White losing all that weight is a good thing for their running game. Texans are the surprise team this season, battling the patriots for the wild card.

AFC West
1.Chargers
2.Raiders
3.Broncos
4.Chiefs
*This division is so weak, how can you not pick the Chargers who will have their full defense and LT back and completely healthy? Raiders surprise in this division because I think the Broncos fall on their face with everything that happened this offseason.

NFC Wild Cards: Giants and Saints
AFC Wild Cards: Raven and Patriots

NFC Championship Game: Eagles over Vikings
AFC Championship Game: Steelers over Chargers

Superbowl: Steelers over Eagles

I picked the steelers to win last year, so huzzah! for me...I was way off on my NFC pick though, as I went for the saints. So an all Pennsylvania superbowl? Could be fun.

Let me know what you think, and I forget what josh predicted, so I'm going to take a gander now.

Once again the Titans get left out in the cold. Do you really think losing 1 player will drop them from 13-3 to below the Laughuars (patent pending)?

And Roy Williams is a weapon for the Cowboys...1 year of learning the offense will be enough for him to return to his Detroit form.

Picking Houston is so original by the way. Oh wait, everyone picked Houston last year too...and the year before. Let's not push it TOO far.

I actually agree that the Raiders will compete for second in the AFC West...it is a sad sight of a division.

Oh another one, "the loss of Edge"??? Did he even play in the playoffs last year? They are and always will be a passing team, and their defense has been improving over the years. If you think Orange Julius Jones will carry Seattle to the top, you are crazy. He should sign with Cincinnati so his nickname would be more appropriate. That is if he could even beat out Cedric Benson for the starting gig...

Packers I also agree with, although the Bears are right there too. That division, at first glance, will be an exciting one to watch. In the end, one team will probably be way better than the other 2 but we'll have to wait and see.

Ugh, still so many things I disagree with. How will Carolina's running game not be as good as last year's? I agree they won't win the division, but not because of the running backs. Stewart is going to be fine and both guys are very capable.

Lastly, being a Washingtonian, I can definitively state that the COWBOYS WILL BE BETTER THAN THE REDSKINS!!1!!11!!ONE!!

I will put up 20 bucks on that if you're game.

alright. Here we go.

T.O had about a preseason to learn the playbook for dallas, since he signed right before preseason began, AND he had an old, ineffective, ready to retire Drew Bledsoe throwing to him for the first half of the season, and he caught 85 passes! Roy williams, alright; he came into the middle of the season and had a big playbook to learn. But even after those first 4 games (an equivalent of preseason), he still only ended with 19 catches. That's not even 2 a game. To say he'll go back to Detroit form isn't saying much either. He had one good season where he caught 82 passes for 1300 yards. If you average out his other 4 seasons in the NFL it is roughly 50 catches for 690 yards and 4 touchdowns annually. Those are patrick crayton numbers, not a number 1 receiver in dallas type numbers. So ya, get roy williams up to detroit form and watch that dallas offense roll...like a flat tire.

The houston pick isn't for originality. They are picked consistently every season, because every season they improve. So be careful because 10 wins isn't out of the question for the texans.

why can't the titans drop from 13-3 to a laughing stock? The raiders did it with flying colors after their superbowl run; and all they really lost was a bi-polar center. I think this division is strong, and would not at all be surprised if the titans drop below 10 victories.

Did you watch the playoffs last year? Yes, Edge played and mostly started all the playoffs last year. He's the reason the cardinals had a consistent enough offense so they could spread out larry fitzgerald for his record-breaking postseason. Also, Edge was 2nd in the league with rushing in the playoffs last season, only behind willie parker. Yes I know he played the most games possible in the post season, but he did not start the first game of the playoffs and still ended up with twice the touches hightower received. He had 7 receptions, which is the most receptions by a running back in the playoffs not named sproles, and by the way, 7 more receptions than hightower. So, yes. The cardinals are going to miss Edge.

If Julius Jones stays healthy, he will be a 1200 yard back. I guarantee it. He's playing for Jim Mora now. The guy who ran the elite rushing offense in Atlanta for a few years, remember? Vick, Dunn, Norwood? Two 1,000 yard rushers? The guy stressed the run on offense, this won't be any different. And again, I bet Edge will make a difference for the seahawks as well.

I bet carolina doesn't come close to their rushing numbers they did last season. AND, I bet jonathan stewarts achilles is going to linger all season.

And I will take that bet! Welcome to Dallas, Mr. Shanahan.

Fair enough. Very nice rebuttals. I couldn't remember about James because he was a non-factor in my mind, but that's neither here nor there. I will accept most of your arguments except for Tennessee and Julius Jones. Jones had a chance in Dallas and failed, now you think he will be a good running back with the same offensive line that ruined Shaun Alexander's career? That and his toe injury, but losing Hutchinson was just as bad. We will see tonight if the Titans can put up another 10+ win year, but I'm thinking they go 10-6 this season with their running game and defense.

HERE WE GO STEELERS!!

For once I find myself agreeing with Ryan on a few points. The world might be ending.

I really do not think Kerry Collins will repeat his success of last year, plus I think the Colts and Texans are more talented. And what happened to the Steelers after they won Super Bowl XL? Obviously it does not take much for a good team to go from 13-3 to 8-8 in one season...

I am not really buying the Edge argument though, I mean he did nothing all regular season, which may have been a brilliant strategy because he was so rested...The Cardinals will not miss Edge too much, they will still win that division.

So wait, Offord, are we making picks on originality? Does that mean picking the Steelers/Patriots/Chargers is unoriginal? Or is that smart? At some point Houston has to become a good team.

Ryan, I like the Saints uniforms. They better have seriously upgraded the defense to make the playoffs.

Houston looked AWESOME this week...6-10 here they come!

And I was just about to bash Ryan on his Julius Jones predictions, since he was sucking it up against the Rams, until he rattled off a 70 yard run. Other than that 1 run, he played pretty poorly. Luckily for the Seahawks, the Cardinals aren't going to play as well as last year. I think it is a tossup between the Cardinals, Niners, and Hawks in that division now.

And how godawful are the Bengals and Broncos? Sheesh...Other than that, no real surprises in week 1 in my opinion. Cutler looked terrible so it looks like the Bears and Broncos both lost out this offseason. Tonight should be a fun, high scoring night...GO RAIDERS!

Oh, and Jake Delhomme's career is OVER
