Halloween

As I said over in my blog, I am a huge fan of Halloween. Instead of just throwing pictures of girls in costumes though, I am going to put up some pictures I found by stalkinglooking through my friends Facebook pages...

Sadly I do not have pictures of some people in their awesome costumes, like my brother in his lion outfit, or Gideon as Shake. These kinds of fun times will be on my mind while I suffer through another night of work.

Weekly Quiz

As I said yesterday in Offord's post, I will try to start a weekly quiz. This week it will be movie quotes. We will keep track of who scores the most points. Each quote has three parts: movie title, character, actor. You can guess any of the parts, but please, do not cheat. No IMDB or Google searches.

1. "I mean doesn't it kind of defeat the whole purpose of having your own plane if it departs before you arrive?"

2. "I didn't think drugs and alchohol were such a big deal they had to resort to neo-McCarthyism to get rid of it."

3. "He's a nut-bag! Just because the fucker's got a library card doesn't make him Yoda"

4. "You see, old friend? I brought more soldiers than you did."

5. "Do not drink too much. Do you hear me? I don't want you passing out or going to the dark side. No going to the dark side!"

6. "Well, he should have armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend."

7. "There are five different types of chairs in this hotel room."

8. "And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society."

9. "What the fuck is the Internet?"

10. "Oh, did I stutter? Everybody gone all quiet and shit? About a minute ago it was like an evening at the Apollo up in this motherfucker, now all of a sudden it's quiet as a church. That's all right, Chico, I don't blame you. I've been beatin' this Jimmy Walker lookin' motherfucker all goddamn night, he can't win."

Some are pretty easy, some not so easy. Good luck to all.

NFL Power Rankings - Week 8

This blog is really starting to dwindle, but I will push on none-the-less. Maybe we need more interesting topics to chat about or something...

So the Phillies look like they are going to take the WS. I pretty much predicted that by taking the Rays to win. When in doubt, bet against me. It has been a boring series so far and I can hardly muster up the willpower to sit through an entire game. Am I the only one ready for baseball to be over??

The NFL continues to surprise each week, as more of the top ranked teams fell to lesser talent - Bills, Jaguars, San Diego - but some semblance of consistency is beginning to develop. By this I mean, the terrible teams are obvious, the flawed teams are obvious, and there are only 2 real contenders: The Titans and the Giants. I see no reason at this point why these two teams won't be playing in the Superbowl...

1. Tennessee Titans - Definitely showed the world they are legit by making Peyton Manning look average.

2. New York Giants - Defense is strong enough to carry them all the way.

3. Carolina Panthers - Steadily climbing, and with a solid all-around game, should be able to win the NFC South.

4. Washington Redskins - This is where the poll really becomes arbitrary. There are probably 8 teams you could insert in this spot, but just looking at record and past rankings, the 'Skins grab it. Jason Campbell has not thrown an interception this season yet...Only starting QB that can make that claim in the league.

5. Pittsburgh Steelers - Can't block and Ben doesn't release quick enough - same old, same old. Is it the receiving corp not getting open, or does Ben just not have good enough vision to find people quickly? I don't know, but with the upcoming schedule and these worries, the Steelers are in for quite a challenge, and the Ravens are lurking...

6a. Dallas Cowboys
6b. New England Patriots - Through adversity, the Cowboys and Patriots continue to march on.

8. Tampa Bay Bucs - Similar setup to the Titans, but worse in all aspects except maybe the passing game.

9. Buffalo Bills - Miami comes to play against the great teams...

10. Green Bay Packers - Their bye week made me appreciate them more. I still love seeing the Green and Yellow play.

11. Philadelphia Eagles - Like I said before, is there anyone more valuable to their team than Brian Westbrook? If he stays healthy, the Eagles could make a run.

12. Jacksonville Jaguars - No consistency from week to week. Might luck their way into the playoffs, but it will be close.

13. Denver Broncos - Big game against Miami coming off their bye week to try and get back on track.

14. Chicago Bears

15. Indianapolis Colts - Not looking good Colts fans. You will be competing with a number of teams now that have much easier schedules for a wildcard spot.

16. Arizona Cardinals - Almost beat the #3 team. Who knows...

17. San Diego Chargers - R.I.P. Norv Turner. M.V.P. Philip Rivers?

18. Baltimore Ravens - As bad as they are, they are only 1 game back and have a great chance to move atop the division with a win over the Browns.

19. New Orleans Saints - Next time a hurricane hits, maybe they should move their home games to London.

20. Atlanta Falcons - Nothing can spoil Philly's big week...

21. Minnesota Vikings - For a team with high preseason aspirations, the Vikes are fading out of everyone's mind quickly. I almost forgot about them this week...

22. Houston Texans - Last week I said they could be over .500 soon with their schedule, and I stick to that.

23. New York Jets - How is this team 4-3? Oh yea, Dolphins, Bengals, Raiders...They will falter as their schedule gets tougher.

24. Miami Dolphins - Looking to play spoiler all year. This team is good enough to beat anyone, but not good enough to make the playoffs. Make sense?

25. Cleveland Browns - Derek Anderson has at least staved off a benching for one more week.

26a. Seattle Seahawks
26b. St. Louis Rams
26c. San Francisco 49ers - Interchangeable.

29. Oakland Raiders - If they are ever going to win, they need McFadden healthy.

30. Kansas City Chiefs - Tyler Thigpen?? Wherever he came from, he didn't look half bad last week.

31. Detroit Lions - It is sad that a team can move up in the rankings just because they put up a good fight, but that is indeed what happened with the Lions.

32. Cincinatti Bengals - Godawful.

And back this week: Top 10 MVP Candidates

1. Drew Brees
2. Clinton Portis
3. Kurt Warner
4. Philip Rivers**
5. Brian Westbrook
6. Aaron Rodgers
7. Donovan McNabb
8. Marion Barber
9. Adrian Peterson
10. Jason Campbell

**Only AFC Candidate...

she's got everything i need...

i think, since i'm the political/social arm (read: not-sports) of this blog, i'm going to post on somethings that have been aggravating me.

It has become popular for conservative commentators to state the those on welfare should lose their right to vote. in fact, one (Michael Savage) said: "Do you think a person on welfare has the right to vote? I don't. Why should a person who is on public assistance maintain the right to vote? Tell me why. Where is it written that they should have the right to vote?... I support them, and they should have the same vote I do? That would be like saying an infant has the right to vote or an insane person has the right to vote. Why should a welfare recipient have the right to vote? They're only gonna vote themselves a raise."

another commentator, Jim Quinn has stated, while discussing the history of property rights in the United States, "Originally, if you didn't own land, you didn't vote, and there was a good reason for it: because those without property will always vote away the property of other people unto themselves, and that's the beginning of the end... But, oh no, that was -- that was just too mean-spirited."

if i hate anything, its misinformation and blatant lying and stupidity. first, mr. savage's argument is logically meaningless. he's basically stating that those who vote their self-interest should not be allowed to vote. unfortunately for his theory, most if not all of modern politics and economics are founded on self-interest. in fact, self-interest underlies the political thought that defines our political perspective. his comment sounds great as something you shout at something, but it lacks all substance.

aside from the meaninglessness of these arguments and their total lack of substance, there is another fundamental reason why the right to vote was expanded to non-property owners. the beginning of the emergence of our modern economic framework required that the vote be expanded. non-landowners began to play a larger role in society, especially respectable political society. therefore, as their contribution increased it became more and more difficult to exclude them, and there could have been unfortunate results if these individuals were not extended the ability to vote. these changes came as society was moving from an agrarian economic structure to a modern industrial structure. with these changes in the means of production were necessitated changes in political and social structure. there is a cognitive dissonance between the market ideas of conservatives and comments such as this. free markets, in my opinion, are the pinnacle of democracy. individuals all have a say in what is made, what we have, and how we distribute it. even the idea of removing the vote should be completely unfathomable to people with this worldview, it is to me.

there is a serious problem in america, its the nature of our discourse. its full of shit. everyone is lying to everyone else. the problem is that not everyone can sort this stuff out, or see through this stuff. people really believe that obama is a muslim. people really think that one tax plan is welfare and the other is not. all tax plans can be defined as welfare under McCain's definition, including his own. obama and the unions are not honest about mccain's health plan. no one can make an informed decision whatsoever.

people are also attacking colin powell. i say kudos to him. he was pushed to the end because of the religion-baiting and real-america baiting going on in this campaign. he's right, its not un-american to be muslim. and that we make it sound like that is wrong. there is no national religion. in fact, if i had my way, everyone would realize that religion is a lie. but, sadly, i do not have my way, and people still wander along believing in some guy somewhere who started stuff a long time ago (just disagreeing on what is long) and cares about all of us (so long as bad stuff isn't happening, and actually, we seem to think the bad stuff is caring too, wish i could convince more women of that). back to the point... it is retarded that religion is playing such a role in this campaign, even if it is on the sidelines. it makes me forlorn.

finally, republicans are trying to make the financial collapse about housing for poor people and democrats are trying to blame greenspan. LISTEN, THIS ISN'T A BLAME THING. what's the point, first off? second, its not like there was one mistake that sent this whole thing spiralling down. this isn't time to kill markets either, as some news outlets have been suggesting. they work, but we just fucked up. it happens. we haven't been doing this for very long... it isn't perfect yet. we've only had real markets for what, 100 years? the housing collapse isn't about the FMs getting mortgages for inner-city (read: minorities) residents. most of those sub-prime loans were not made by lenders participating in the FMs. even the portion of blame they do deserve is not enough on its own to bring everything down like it did. and dems shouldn't blame anyone for not seeing this coming, gary becker has talked about how few people predicted a fall like this and the high costs of listening to warnings and getting people to stop riding a strongly increasing market. if people keep sharing these ideas that have no real merit, we'll never actually fix the cause of this problem.

so that's what i'm calling for. the use and exercise of reason, the most human of all human traits. everyone needs to stop behaving like an ass. currently all of our information markets are facing a problem similar to the housing market 5 years ago. we've got a bubble of all this valueless crap out there muddying up the real value of information and parading around as real value. we deserve good information. anyone have any ideas on how to get it out to the public?

NFL Power Rankings - Week 7

I will take this opportunity to mention how amazing the Red Sox/Rays series was - well at least the last 3 games. I unfortunately missed the end of the comeback game, but got to watch all of game 7 and was thoroughly entertained. There were some questionable calls near the end, and some mistakes by the Red Sox especially, but I think the Rays proved they are the better team. Now they face the Phillies, who undoubtedly will choke and cause Philadelphia fans to finally put themselves out of their misery, while the Rays will win the series in a half full stadium. If a team wins a championship and no one is there to see it, did it really happen? Without Red Sox fans filling the seats, Tropicana could be a sad sight. Or not, but still, Rays fans and the city of Tampa Bay should be pit fighting each other for tickets...Makes me wonder if the Pirates do make the playoffs someday, will the city even care? It's the start of the hockey season and mid-football season...I find it hard to believe there would be much hype over baseball at this point. Anyway, I picked the Dodgers and Red Sox and was dead wrong, so if I pick the Rays the Phillies will probably win. In that case...

GO PHILLIES, I THINK YOU'RE GOING TO FINALLY BREAK THROUGH AND DO IT!!!

...onto the rankings:

1. Tennessee Titans - They haven't played a winning team yet, and their schedule doesn't get much tougher. They have the easiest one in the league and the only team over .500 they play as of now is the Steelers. Lock up the #1 seed now.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers - Another ho-hum performance against a terrible Bengals' team. They, too, have not played a winning team thus far, but the schedule begins it's tough stretch next week against the Giants, in my game of the week. Excluding the Bengals, the teams they play the rest of the way are a combined 35 - 22.

3. New York Giants - The G-Men looked adequate against the Niners. Not saying much.

4. Buffalo Bills - I definitely underestimated the Bills and overestimated the Chargers. Somehow these guys keep winning, and with the second easiest schedule in the league they could find themselves with a first round bye. Who could have predicted the top 2 seeds in the AFC would be the Titans and Bills??

5. Tampa Bay Bucs - See above, except switched Bills with Bucs, and Chargers with Saints.

6. Carolina Panthers - Top 6 team ranks now vs. their respective preseason rank: 21, 10, 9, 18, 19, 15. WTF?? Am I really THAT bad at predicting teams?

7. Jacksonville Jaguars - In my best Teddy KGB voice, "Hiengin' avound."

8. Washington Redskins - Amazingly, with their easy schedule the rest of the way and their great start, the 'Skins are a favorite to make the playoffs.

9. New England Patriots - Still adjusting to their madeover roster, the Pats' dismantling of the Broke-os shows they are beginning to put the pieces together.

10. Dallas Cowboys - I may be the only analyst(?) still putting the Cowboys in the top 10, but Romo will come back soon and they still have the most talent in the league. Although talent alone obviously doesn't win Superbowls, I still stick with these guys at least making the playoffs and maybe making a run.

11. Green Bay Packers - Aaron Rodgers is beginning to grow on me. The key to this team might be getting the running game going, because the defense and passing game have looked great.

12. San Diego Chargers - See Cowboys, except change 10 to 12.

13. Denver Broncos - Something ain't right in Colorado. If I move to Denver next year these guys better pull it together...I may write a post about best places to live soon if anyone cares.

14. Chicago Bears - They are putting the pieces together and have a great chance to make a run, but the NFC is damn deep this year and it might come down to who wins the division between the Burs and the Pack.

15. Indianapolis Colts - Oh, where for art thou, Peyton Manning.

16. Arizona Cardinals - Nothing changes, but an intriguing matchup this week against Carolina. Could be a chance for the Birds to prove whether they are a force in the NFC, or just the best team in the West, like the gold medal winner in the special olympics.

17. Philadelphia Eagles - Even though they had a bye I moved them down because I just don't like Philadelphia...

18. Atlanta Falcons - ...which sets up a great match up to determine which city is more crummy and crime-ridden. Next up...

19. Baltimore Ravens - Baltimore and Detroit. I'll take Detroit over Philly in the worst-city-to-live-in competition.

20. St. Louis Rams - Poor Cowboys. The Rams are turning it around faster than Britney Spears forgetting her baby at 7 Eleven. Can you count them out in the NFC West with Stephen Jackson running the ball?

21. Minnesota Vikings - So much for their great defense.

22. New Orleans Saints - So much for their great offense.

23. Houston Texans - Finally getting over the Hurricane hump (I'm patenting that for a new hip-hop song), the Texans could get back to .500 and maybe more with an easy forthcoming schedule.

24. New York Jets - Mr. Favre has to be regretting his decision to play for the Jets. I believe he was offered a job with Tampa Bay and passed over it...

25. Cleveland Browns - Bill Simmons had a great joke about a baby falling out of a window and someone catching it to save it. He remarked that it was a good thing Braylon Edwards wasn't there. Couldn't have said it better myself.

26. Miami Dolphins - I believe the real Miami Dolphins have indeed stood up.

27. San Francisco 49ers - Firing a coach in the middle of the season just seems wrong...although it is working in St. Louis.

28. Oakland Raiders - I'd commend them for their win, but it was more the Jets handing it over to them. Maybe Brett should stop spreading secrets to other teams and start worrying about his own team's dwindling season.

29. Seattle Seahawks - Can it get much worse for the city of Seattle?

30. Kansas City Chiefs - The best thing I can say about them is I like their uniforms.

31. Cincinatti Bengals - The competition for the #1 pick begins!

32. Detroit Lions - The current front runner for #1 pick. After looking at numerous prospect rankings for the '09 draft, there is no consensus top pick. Should make for an interesting week for the Lions...in April.

As always, thanks for reading.

Things that make you go hmmm...

I was just perusing some random entertainment blogs throughout the internets and came upon the results for winners for Spike TV's 2008 Scream Awards. It was pretty uninteresting until I came to the last award, for "Most Shocking Comic Book Twist". The winner was "The X-Men Disband After Professor X is Shot in the Head by Bishop".

What what what?*

Sure superheroes die in comics all the time, and I don't really follow them at all anymore, but with all the hoopla over Captain America's death I figured I would've heard more about this?! WTF!

* - Spoken like Sheila Broflovski. I can never figure out how to properly convey that via text.

Thought you guys should read this...

Really this post is meant for Josh and Gideon, whom i know are still enjoying Heroes. I want to go on record saying that I do believe the series can still be saved for the season. I enjoyed the very first episode of the season, but recently the show is starting to get sloppy and more important character story lines have become obsolete as they try to resolve the main-very fuzzy-plot. I found this article on MSN.com and I agreed with many of the points and thought you guys should read this and add your opinion.

Penn State Football

With PSU destroying Wisconsin over the weekend, and a bunch of other teams losing, the Nittany Lions have jumped to #3 in the polls. In my opinion they have a real shot of winning the national title this year. I tried to mention this to some people on Saturday, and I gave them this reasoning:

Back in '05, when they won the Orange Bowl, some people felt that if Texas or USC would have lost during the regular season, PSU would have gotten a shot at the national championship game, which to me always seemed like a bad idea. As much as I love PSU, I never felt they were in the same caliber as Texas or USC.

Fortunately this season, after watching Texas/Oklahoma, I truly believe that PSU is every bit as good as either team. I know some people will say that the Big Ten is weak this year, but come on, PSU has very talented playmakers on both offense and defense, the kind of thing that makes them dangerous, also the same kind of thing that makes national champions...

Plus, all those people ragging on the Big Ten, and talking up the SEC all year, well how well are those teams doing now? Also, aside from USC, the Pac Ten is a joke. The Big 12 is probably the dominant conference this year, with the SEC second, and the Big Ten third...

NFL Power Rankings - Week 6

Since Ryan told me he actually reads these, I will continue to write them. It gives me something to do, anyway. Well this week was quite crazy. I spent most of Sunday driving home from Pittsburgh so I missed most of the games and am very disappointed I did not witness the 5 unbelievable finishes. What makes it craaaazy, though, is that 6 out of my top 8 teams lost, and the other 2 had byes! If they hadn't, we could have seen an unprecedented 8 for top 8 teams losing. We did see the return to elite status for some teams, however, as the Chargers and Colts charged their way up the rankings. Things are beginning to move back towards normalcy. On to the rankings:

1. Tennessee Titans - They have risen a whopping 20 spots in my rankings since the Preseason poll, culminating with their first #1 rankings probably since their Superbowl run. The only reason they are here, though, is that they are the only undefeated team left, and no other team has showed any semblance of dominance and running away from the pack. Is there any doubt that Jeff Fischer is one of the great coaches in the game?

2. Pittsburgh Steelers - Aided by the bye, the Steelers watched as the other powers in the NFL fell, one by one. Like Penn State, they move up in the standings practically by default. Do I think they could beat all the teams under them in the rankings? Maybe. Probably not though.

3. San Diego Chargers - The best team with a 3-3 record, and maybe the best team overall. LT and Gates are looking like their injuries are fading, and Philip Rivers is making a serious run at MVP. With the emergence of a decent receiving core, and the defense beginning to play a little better, the Chargers are set to regain Superbowl contender status.

4. New York Giants - The amazing winning streak comes to an end, and perhaps so do their hopes of going to another Superbowl. Eli looked like the QB we all remember, and the defense obviously is struggling if they allowed Derek Anderson to throw all over them. I didn't see the game, but things could get grim in the future for the G-Men.

5. Indianapolis Colts - All those reporters who were talking about Eli being better than Peyton are insane...I never believed a word of it and knew that Peyton was basically just playing preseason warmup football the first 4 weeks. These guys are primed for another superbowl run, and could still make a run at the division if Tennessee falters, which they undoubtedly will.

6. Dallas Cowboys - It was a very bad week for the team, and especially for Romo. Brad Johnson has proven throughout his career that he is good enough not to lose, so I wouldn't count these guys out yet, not with all the talent they have.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars - In my game of the week, the Jags took out the Broncos with what looked to be a very solid defensive effort. Any time you can keep Marshall out of the endzone is a job well done, and with Jones-Drew finally taking over as the featured back, things are looking up for these guys.

8. Denver Broncos - Losing to a tough Jacksonville team is nothing to be ashamed of, but the youth of this team's key offensive players could be a problem as the season drags on. We will see how Cutler and company are able to handle the pressure that will be put on them by the Chargers.

9. Buffalo Bills - They face San Diego in the game of the week next week. The game is at home, but if San Diego continues to play as it has been this one could be a blowout.

10. Tampa Bay Bucs - What do Jeff Garcia, Kurt Warner, Gus Frerotte, and Kerry Collins have in common? They are all old and on first place teams. Amazing.

11. Washington Redskins - Yikes. The Rams. I'm glad I missed this one.

12. Carolina Panthers - Picked apart by Jeff Garcia and Warrick Dunn...Granted Tampa's Defense is playing with passion, but is Jake Delhomme and company as bad as they looked? They need to get back to their awesome ground game.

13. New England Patriots - Down but not out. They are still in a decent position to contend for a playoff spot, especially in the weak AFC East.

14. Philadelphia Eagles - Could last week have gone any better for the city of Philadelphia? The Phillies are crushing the ball, and all 3 other teams in the NFC East lost...badly. With Westbrook back, the Iggles are back in contention.

15. Arizona Cardinals - Last week I said I had no idea how these guys will perform week to week. They got torn apart by an old Jets offense, then bounced back by trouncing two top 10 teams. It is apparent now that this is their year.

16. Green Bay Packers - Definitely needed that win, albeit against the pitiful Seahawks. This puts the Pack back on top of the Pack, poised for an all-out battle with the equally pedestrian Bears and Vikings.

17. New York Jets - It wasn't pretty, but they pulled it out against the Bengals. I'd say it was embarrassing to let the Bengals hang with them, but Cincy has given a lot of tough teams trouble.

18. Atlanta Falcons - My wish was granted as I got to see the game on Fox in Pittsburgh since Pgh could give two sh*ts about the 'Skins. My expectations were definitely met too, as I got to witness the break out receiver of the year - Roddy White. He made some amazing catches and has the size, hands, and QB to be a star in the NFL for years to come. The combo of Turner and Norwood was equally impressive, and Matt Ryan is showing incredible poise as a rookie. They are in one of the toughest divisions in football, and will probably fall short in the end, but can the city of Atlanta ask for anything more after the devastating Michael Vick saga? I'm sure it will soon come out that Matt Ryan eats baby seals for breakfast or something, so don't worry.

19. New Orleans Saints - Have the best QB and the most explosive playmaker, but still are ranked #19. If they can get their defense together they will make the NFC South the most competitive and exciting in the NFL.

20. Chicago Bears - Probably went in to the game thinking their defense would handle the rookie QB fairly easily, but were surprised by his adept play. The Birs are tied for 1st in a division that is totally up for grabs.

21. Minnesota Vikings - It is anyones guess why Tampa Bay has been better than these guys - The two teams are in very similar situtions. Except the Vikings are little bit better or equal in every aspect of the game. Perhaps it is coaching?

22. Cleveland Browns - Just when you thought they were down and out...I guess the Steelers will have to actually try the rest of the way and not bench Ben for the final 10 weeks to rest up for the playoffs.

23. Baltimore Ravens - Just when you thought Joe Flacco couldn't get any worse...

24. Miami Dolphins - ENIGMA

25. San Francisco 49ers - Maybe I was a little hasty in saying I really wanted to see these guys play last week...

26. Houston Texans - Beat the Dolphins, who beat the Chargers and Patriots. Are Houston fans ticked I didn't rank them #3?

27. Seattle Seahawks - I hope you all adhered to my warning last week. For those who didn't, I hope you weren't making out with your significant other when you watched this game.

28. St. Louis Rams - Was it coincedence that the Rams played the same time the first pig was jettisoned into space? I think not. (Do not fact check please)

29. Oakland Raiders - Why doesn't Al Davis just coach the team since he knows so much?

30. Kansas City Chiefs - No real change after the bye week.

31. Cincinnati Bengals - No Palmer again this week against the Steelers, but could this be the week they finally break through against a top team? My guess is no.

32. Detroit Lions - Actually hung with the Vikings for a while, but good teams usually pull through in those situations. I just checked to make sure they weren't playing Seattle this year. Good thing, too, because watching that game might surpass breaking your legbone for most painful thing there is.

And new to the weekly column:

MVP Countdown (Top 10 in order): Drew Brees, Clinton Portis, Kurt Warner, Philip Rivers, Reggie Bush, Michael Turner, Brett Favre, Ben Roethlisberger, Jay Cutler, Donovan McNabb

NFL Power Rankings - Week 5

Another 4th quarter Peyton Manning comeback, another 23 hits on Big Ben, and another exciting week in NFL football - some things never change. One surprise was that David Carr threw his first touchdown pass since 1987 - I knew he had it in him! As for the favorite teams of the followers of this blog - Steelers, Giants, Broncos, (whatever team Imler roots for), Redskins - the future seems bright. If the standings keep up the way they have been, we could be in for some intense playoff match-ups. Onto the rankings:

1. New York Giants - The first of four of the blogites favorite teams to crack the top 6. The good news is Eli Manning is looking great. The bad news is that anyone can get injured, and I think many of us just realized that David Carr is the backup. I think Jesse Palmer is available if they need him...

2. Dallas Cowboys - Almost blew a game against the Bengals...There are definite weaknesses with these guys, and if they have a few bad games or tough losses, I don't see Wade Philips saving a complete meltdown.

3. Tennessee Titans - Still not sold on them, but they are undefeated.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers - The "toughest schedule since 1976" is starting to look not so bad as the Chargers, Colts, and Pats look like a shell of their former selves. They should be able to win the division easily even if Ben plays from a wheel chair. Did you see that throw to Hines Ward at the end of the game?? Unbelievable...

5. Denver Broncos - The defense looked improved, but is still tough to gauge against Jeff Garcia.

6. Washington Redskins - Somehow they keep grinding out wins. They almost have as many as I predicted at the beginning of the season already.

7. Carolina Panthers - I doubted them last week, but definitely was proved wrong. Their running game is young and talented, the receivers and quarterback is adequate, and the defense is starting to step up. Not quite to the level of their superbowl team yet, but look to be improving each week.

8. New England Patriots - Like the Yankees, it is difficult to doubt they won't make the plaoyoffs. But, hopefully like the Yankees, it will happen.

9. Buffalo Bills - Soon they will be exposed for the mediocre team that they really are. You can't win every game with special teams.

10. San Diego Chargers - Still my superbowl pick from the AFC.

11. Jacksonville Jaguars - The Jags are 2-3 and yet they are still a very possible superbowl contender. Is the AFC really this balanced(weak)?

12. Indianapolis Colts - See New England post.

13. Chicago Bears - Anyone but the Lions could win the NFC North. According to these rankings it will be the Bears. Sad but true. FYI, when I was at PSU and saw the Nittany Lions take on Purdue, Kyle Orton was the starting QB and he looked amazing. I always thought he under achieved in the NFL, maybe this was his breakout game? Or not.

14. Tampa Bay Bucs - There sure are a lot of middle of the road teams in the NFL right now.

15. Philadelphia Eagles - Have had a very tough schedule. Should move up as they beat up on the lesser talent they face in their next 3 games.

16. Green Bay Packers - Aaron Rodgers saved himself in this game from a mental breakdown, but how did they lose this game? Their offense played well, but is their defense really that bad to allow Atlanta to walk all over them, or is Atlanta just that good?

17. Arizona Cardinals - A-well-a don't you know about the bird? Well, everybody knows that the bird is the word! A-well-a bird, bird, b-bird's the word. A-well-a bird, bird, b-bird's the word. In other words I have no idea how this team will play week to week.

18. New York Jets - No change after the bye week.

19. Atlanta Falcons - I never thought I'd say this, but I really wish they would nationally televise a Falcons game at some point...

20. Baltimore Ravens - Will this team EVER find a competent quarterback?

21. Minnesota Vikings - Still in the hunt in the NFC North, but need to pull all their talent* together before they can make a serious run. (*Not including the ageless wonder Gus Frerotte)

22. New Orleans Saints - Secondary can't stop the Minnesota passing game...Not a good sign. The run game is lacking as well. Brees can't win every game by himself.

23. Miami Dolphins - Who are these guys and what have they done with the Dolphins? I think this soldifies Bill Parcels as the greatest football mind in NFL history.

24. San Francisco 49ers - Another team I'd like actually see on TV once this season. Their potentially potent offense hinges on an unexperienced career backup quarterback, though, so I don't see them continuing to put up great numbers against any team outside of the NFC West.

25. Seattle Seahawks - Do not watch a Seahawks game until after 60 minutes of eating.

26. Cleveland Browns - No change after the bye week.

27. Oakland Raiders - Same.

28. Houston Texans - You know there are terrible teams when an 0-5 one is ranked 28.

29. Kansas City Chiefs - SUCK.

30. Cincinnati Bengals - SUCK.

31. Detroit Lions - REALLY SUCK.

32. St. Louis Rams - REALLY SUCK. But at least they didn't lose last week.

Baseball Playoffs

With the start of the baseball post season under way, I figured now would be a good chance to make some predictions and let you know my thoughts. First off, I would like to say that I have adopted the Rays as my team, and if you read my prediction for the season blog, I really thought they could be a team to knock people out of the race, instead they proved me wrong and won the division.

On that note, do I think they can win it all? At this point, I am done saying they cannot do anything. I am obviously retarded.

The dreaded Red Sox look very good right now, and as much as I hate them, I cannot bring myself to root against Jason Bay. I want to see him win a World Series...and it would be even cooler if he won the WS or ALCS MVP...

In the NL, I hate to say it, but the Phillies look very impressive. They have the right pieces to actually make the WS, but still, they are from Philadelphia, nothing good can come from there. The Cubs look to be dead in the water, the Dodgers are good, but seriously, I cannot see a team from the west making the WS...

So, my prediction: Phillies over Rays in the WS.

some people live, some people die

i find myself bored with a lot of things. almost everything. i feel totally neutral. neutral is a weird thing to feel.

maybe i should sit down and criticize our response to the financial crisis. that might be fun. i want to see what happens though.

what i love about markets and money is what i love about everything else. it has no real meaning or value. i think that is one of the most interesting things that most people fail to truly comprehend. value is a totally human artifice. we make it. we destroy it. such a cool idea. i might come up with a real post about this... i'm just bored now and can't sleep.
