NFL Power Rankings - Week 8

This blog is really starting to dwindle, but I will push on none-the-less. Maybe we need more interesting topics to chat about or something...

So the Phillies look like they are going to take the WS. I pretty much predicted that by taking the Rays to win. When in doubt, bet against me. It has been a boring series so far and I can hardly muster up the willpower to sit through an entire game. Am I the only one ready for baseball to be over??

The NFL continues to surprise each week, as more of the top ranked teams fell to lesser talent - Bills, Jaguars, San Diego - but some semblance of consistency is beginning to develop. By this I mean, the terrible teams are obvious, the flawed teams are obvious, and there are only 2 real contenders: The Titans and the Giants. I see no reason at this point why these two teams won't be playing in the Superbowl...

1. Tennessee Titans - Definitely showed the world they are legit by making Peyton Manning look average.

2. New York Giants - Defense is strong enough to carry them all the way.

3. Carolina Panthers - Steadily climbing, and with a solid all-around game, should be able to win the NFC South.

4. Washington Redskins - This is where the poll really becomes arbitrary. There are probably 8 teams you could insert in this spot, but just looking at record and past rankings, the 'Skins grab it. Jason Campbell has not thrown an interception this season yet...Only starting QB that can make that claim in the league.

5. Pittsburgh Steelers - Can't block and Ben doesn't release quick enough - same old, same old. Is it the receiving corp not getting open, or does Ben just not have good enough vision to find people quickly? I don't know, but with the upcoming schedule and these worries, the Steelers are in for quite a challenge, and the Ravens are lurking...

6a. Dallas Cowboys
6b. New England Patriots - Through adversity, the Cowboys and Patriots continue to march on.

8. Tampa Bay Bucs - Similar setup to the Titans, but worse in all aspects except maybe the passing game.

9. Buffalo Bills - Miami comes to play against the great teams...

10. Green Bay Packers - Their bye week made me appreciate them more. I still love seeing the Green and Yellow play.

11. Philadelphia Eagles - Like I said before, is there anyone more valuable to their team than Brian Westbrook? If he stays healthy, the Eagles could make a run.

12. Jacksonville Jaguars - No consistency from week to week. Might luck their way into the playoffs, but it will be close.

13. Denver Broncos - Big game against Miami coming off their bye week to try and get back on track.

14. Chicago Bears

15. Indianapolis Colts - Not looking good Colts fans. You will be competing with a number of teams now that have much easier schedules for a wildcard spot.

16. Arizona Cardinals - Almost beat the #3 team. Who knows...

17. San Diego Chargers - R.I.P. Norv Turner. M.V.P. Philip Rivers?

18. Baltimore Ravens - As bad as they are, they are only 1 game back and have a great chance to move atop the division with a win over the Browns.

19. New Orleans Saints - Next time a hurricane hits, maybe they should move their home games to London.

20. Atlanta Falcons - Nothing can spoil Philly's big week...

21. Minnesota Vikings - For a team with high preseason aspirations, the Vikes are fading out of everyone's mind quickly. I almost forgot about them this week...

22. Houston Texans - Last week I said they could be over .500 soon with their schedule, and I stick to that.

23. New York Jets - How is this team 4-3? Oh yea, Dolphins, Bengals, Raiders...They will falter as their schedule gets tougher.

24. Miami Dolphins - Looking to play spoiler all year. This team is good enough to beat anyone, but not good enough to make the playoffs. Make sense?

25. Cleveland Browns - Derek Anderson has at least staved off a benching for one more week.

26a. Seattle Seahawks
26b. St. Louis Rams
26c. San Francisco 49ers - Interchangeable.

29. Oakland Raiders - If they are ever going to win, they need McFadden healthy.

30. Kansas City Chiefs - Tyler Thigpen?? Wherever he came from, he didn't look half bad last week.

31. Detroit Lions - It is sad that a team can move up in the rankings just because they put up a good fight, but that is indeed what happened with the Lions.

32. Cincinatti Bengals - Godawful.

And back this week: Top 10 MVP Candidates

1. Drew Brees
2. Clinton Portis
3. Kurt Warner
4. Philip Rivers**
5. Brian Westbrook
6. Aaron Rodgers
7. Donovan McNabb
8. Marion Barber
9. Adrian Peterson
10. Jason Campbell

**Only AFC Candidate...

Now that my computer is back up and running, some more posts will be coming from myself. I think we need better direction. I like that every Tuesday you are putting up your football rankings. Keep that up.

I think on Wednesdays I will try to put something up that will go up every week. Maybe a quiz or something...

We need other people to start writing stuff. I am glad that JSO writes the political stuff/weird stuff, but we need something from my brother, Allison, and as always more Gideon!

You can never get enough Gideon.

for the AFC for MVP, i know it's not very popular, but what about a WR...Lee Evans? Jerricho Cotchery could end up being a popular pick soon, I think he's going to start tearing it up, and what about Chris Johnson? I know he's not getting all the scores because he's not a turd like lendale white, but he's putting up solid numbers...actually between the 2 of them, either one could be a nominee for MVP this season me thinks. I like the Brees pick for number one for right now, but the saints have to make the playoffs first. If they do, they will be dangerous...same with the chargers. I think Brees and Rivers should be 1-2, followed by portis, westbrook and then warner.

Cotchery? He's not even the #1 receiver on a crappy team. He's barely fantasy roster material.
