With the start of the baseball post season under way, I figured now would be a good chance to make some predictions and let you know my thoughts. First off, I would like to say that I have adopted the Rays as my team, and if you read my prediction for the season blog, I really thought they could be a team to knock people out of the race, instead they proved me wrong and won the division.
On that note, do I think they can win it all? At this point, I am done saying they cannot do anything. I am obviously retarded.
The dreaded Red Sox look very good right now, and as much as I hate them, I cannot bring myself to root against Jason Bay. I want to see him win a World Series...and it would be even cooler if he won the WS or ALCS MVP...
In the NL, I hate to say it, but the Phillies look very impressive. They have the right pieces to actually make the WS, but still, they are from Philadelphia, nothing good can come from there. The Cubs look to be dead in the water, the Dodgers are good, but seriously, I cannot see a team from the west making the WS...
So, my prediction: Phillies over Rays in the WS.

I think I have to agree with your assertions of the Phillies, though they are from Philly they do have many things going for them. The one thing that bothers me about the Phillies though, is the amount of guys they have on their team that are free swingers. Many of these players are going to strike out a lot, but they do make pitchers pay for their mistakes. They have a strong bullpen and decent starting pitching, but the back end of the rotation is what's going to kill them down the stretch of the playoffs. Their staff doesn't have much going for them after Myers and Hamels, unless Moyer decides to change in some vampire dentures. They will advance to play the dodgers, but the Dodgers are going to the world series this year, not Philadelphia. From what i've been watching in the Dodgers series (i'm watching right now), this team looks unbeatable right now. Manny has completely changed the mentality of that ball club, he's getting decent protection behind him from Ethier, and they've also got Rafael Furcal back finally from missing over 100 games this season with back problems. They had the best starting pitching all season, despite not having their ace Penny for most of the season and Schmidt on the shelf for the rest of his life. They now have a pitcher who has been there done that and wants to do it again in Maddux, and they have a solid bullpen now that they have saito healthy again. I don't see many weaknesses with the Dodgers right now, they hit well, run well, pitch well, defend well and they get people on base in front of Manny. This team just seems invincible right now and in case you haven't guessed it, they are my World Series winners pick too this year.
In the AL I have Boston in the World Series over Tampa, though I would not be surprised if Tampa pulls out ahead in this one, they've had the Red Sox's number all season. They have an attitude tha says "we are not intimidated and we are going to destroy you, and if we are intimidated we're going to send our Aussie out to scream funny slang at you, and then destroy you with a boomerang", they're getting everything they need from their pitching on all counts, the hitting may need to pick it up a little bit especially with the offense the White Sox are capable of. I just don't see them getting it done at all for this series, Tampa takes it. Back to the BoSox. They seem to be doing everything right, and Jason Bay, you can tell has been a breath of fresh air for this team, to actually see someone hustling on every play and playing the game how it's supposed to be played every day just rubs off on people. He'll be great for this series, but he'll cool off against Tampa next round, like the rest of the team, but they'll win the series due to them having 3 aces on their pitching staff who could all pitch on 3 days rest if need be, and they've got that crazy son of a bitch to close games...I hope they make to the world series so Papelbon will do his little Irish jig again, but i want to see him don clogs and bust a move on top of the opponents dugout while shooting soggy hot dogs at the visiting crowd.
So my picks are Dodgers in the NL and BoSox in the AL, with the Dodgers winning it in 6.
As much as I hate to say anything positive for Philly, their big weakness, the backend of the rotation, should not really come into play that much. Most fourth and fifth starters are used for bullpen innings, such as Maddux the other night.
I am still not jumping on the Dodger bandwagon. This team is not that impressive. I like Ethier, Kemp, and Loney, but seriously, to think that Manny turned them into a team that could barely catch the D-Backs, to the team that is unbeatable is pretty absurd.
Their record after the trade was only 30-24. Yes Manny played extremely well, but he must not have been doing enough if they could barely climb over the .500 mark.
oh yeah, Kern, when you going to post your thoughts on Brisingr on my blog?
Oh yea, i forgot about that because at the time i was planning on writing one up myself. I'm not going to do it right now cuz i'm tired and I just got done watching the steelers pull out another close one, and now i'm going to finish watching the BoSox-Angels game which happens to be in the 10th inning right now. They have Rodgriguez in right now, and for some reason I think it would be appropriate that the now saves record holder would be the pitcher that inevitably loses the series for his team. Big papi is up, i call a home run...first pitch, foul ball off a check swing...second pitch, big swing for a foul ball takes count to 0-2...third pitch, ball in the dirt takes count to 1-2...fourth pitch, big swing fouls the 95 mph fastball into the stands on the 3rd base side...Papi calls time...fifth pitch, curveball for a ball low and in takes count to 2-2...sixth pitch, ball in the dirt takes count to full...seventh pitch, slow roller foul, counts still full...eighth pitch, ball 4 low. Well it was a good at bat, i really thought i had that at bat pegged. Oh, well maybe Bay will be the hero, that would be pretty sweet, atleast then Pittsburgh can show somekind of baseball pride.
I'll post on the Brisingr tomorrow I think, and then maybe right my own, we shall see. I'm also probably going to writing about another trilogy I'm going to finishing soon called Troy by David Gemmell. I'm on the last book, and it's been a really entertaining read, you should pick it up.
I'm not gonna give my picks because that just means they'll lose. I'm a living jinx, almost akin to the Madden curse. I had previously picked the Cubs over the Angels, and look how that turned out (I can see the future).
Now that I'm rooting for the Rays, they ha-
Oh no...
Dodgers over Red Sox. Manny's revenge! Well...not really at all, Scott Boras should burn in hell.
