As I said yesterday in Offord's post, I will try to start a weekly quiz. This week it will be movie quotes. We will keep track of who scores the most points. Each quote has three parts: movie title, character, actor. You can guess any of the parts, but please, do not cheat. No IMDB or Google searches.
1. "I mean doesn't it kind of defeat the whole purpose of having your own plane if it departs before you arrive?"
2. "I didn't think drugs and alchohol were such a big deal they had to resort to neo-McCarthyism to get rid of it."
3. "He's a nut-bag! Just because the fucker's got a library card doesn't make him Yoda"
4. "You see, old friend? I brought more soldiers than you did."
5. "Do not drink too much. Do you hear me? I don't want you passing out or going to the dark side. No going to the dark side!"
6. "Well, he should have armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend."
7. "There are five different types of chairs in this hotel room."
8. "And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society."
9. "What the fuck is the Internet?"
10. "Oh, did I stutter? Everybody gone all quiet and shit? About a minute ago it was like an evening at the Apollo up in this motherfucker, now all of a sudden it's quiet as a church. That's all right, Chico, I don't blame you. I've been beatin' this Jimmy Walker lookin' motherfucker all goddamn night, he can't win."
Some are pretty easy, some not so easy. Good luck to all.

I knew most of 'em, but I'll admit, I did look up the ones I didn't know...
1. Familiar, but didn't know. Maybe because I only saw it once.
2. Mike, Adam Goldberg, Dazed and Confused (I IMDbed him recently cuz he's in Entourage.)
3. David Mills?? Brad Pitt, Se7en (I think I only got this cuz it was on HBO or Starz the other day and I caught this part.)
4. King Leonidas, Gerard Butler, 300
5. Jack, Thomas Hayden Church, Sideways (It took me a while to get this one, but it came to me.)
6. No clue. Looked it up. And sadly, I've never seen this movie.
7. Ben Stone, Seth Rogen, Knocked Up
8. Dennis, no clue which MP guy played him, Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
"Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony. Oh, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you. Oh but if I went 'round sayin' I was Emperor, just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away. Come and see the violence inherent in the system. Help! Help! I'm being repressed!"
"Bloody peasant!"
"Oh, what a giveaway! Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That's what I'm on about! Did you see him repressing me? You saw him, Didn't you?"
anyway, back on track...
9. Jason Mewes? Jay, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
10. No clue what the actor's name is, Jonny, Poolhall Junkies
This was pretty easy for me, considering I own 8 of these movies. 22 out of 30, I believe.
Good quiz. I just won't be guessing at characters or actors. And I'm commenting here before reading the other comments.
1- Is that from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels?
7- Definitely Knocked Up. That's my favorite line in a movie that's one of my favorite comedies.
8- Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
9- I know this one. Aargh! I know it involves time travel.
Hmph. If that was indeed Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, then I assure you it's not the only movie that's included that particular quote.
Wasn't it Paul Rudd that had the "5 Chairs" quote?
And that was tough...every time I think I know anything about movies I get 2 of them...doh.
I only got the 300 and Knocked Up ones. And I'm pretty sure it was Paul Rudd's character that said it, too.
Wow, yeah, you're right. I'm an idiot. Paul Rudd (Pete) definitely says that while Seth Rogen (Ben) is sittin on the bed. I feel like such a fool.
I think my problem with the quotes is the fact I don't take the time to memorize phrases after seeing it only once. I have to see it multiple times, and I simply don't do that too often with many movies. Half of the movies I haven't seen or only watched parts of them. But, i knew the 300 and knocked up quotes, i'm just terrible with character names...Isn't that bad considering I'm probably the only one in this blog consistently pretending to work theater/film/corner
Oh, I pretend to work in the film industry all the time. I've been workin on this one screenplay for 5 years now. And my Jumper remake is in permanent stasis as well.
