Carpenter got ripped off. I don't really have a whole lot to write about it, but I thought Carpenter was the best all season long (other than the 4 starts he missed, which probably cost him the award).
Looks like I was right about both Cy Young winners. I don't think you can say Carpenter got ripped off.
I don't see anything that points to him being the clear favorite and then somehow this nobody wins it. Lincecum had a great season, you can debate whose was better all day long. If Carpenter wins, people say that Lincecum got ripped off...
Nope, you're wrong Offord. It can definitely be argued a variety of ways, even when throwing Wainwright into the mix.
4 of Lincecum's losses came within the last 7 games of the season. 3 of which occurred after Lincecum's innings pitched topped Carpenters total for the season (and of those three, he only gave up 2 runs over 7 innings in two of them). If you look at their stats over Carpenters total of starts it looks like:
Once you factor in the WTDTSBT (win total due to slightly better team) all that really stands out are the K's. You've gotta factor in the 5 weeks Carpenter missed because a) his team had to do without him, and b) his fantasy owners were stuck using guys like Kevin Correia. Fantasy overrules all.
I think they just wanted to watch Greike's downfall after winning it. He is a mess psychologically..
And I'm not sure I understand your angle on the Lincecum argument. Are you arguing for or against Carpenter? All I know, in my opinion, if I had one game to win I would take Carpenter.
Also, if you look at how many of the voters voted, they either voted Wainwright first and Carpenter 3rd, or Carpenter 1st and Wainwright 3rd. Not many took them 1-2, meaning, in my view, that they stole votes from each other. None of the writers wanted to put 2 Cardinals in the top 2. If not for Wainwright, Carpenter would have won.
After looking at the majority of their advanced stats at fangraphs. I can see the argument for Carpenter.
Still not enough to say that he got robbed.
Interestingly enough, if you look at their win-probability numbers (which I have no clue how they come up with them, I just trust that they have a system). They are almost identical pitchers, so either one would be great in that one game scenario.
Again, I feel like we are splitting hairs, the differences in each pitchers season was minimal.

Nope. No one would say that.
I like arguing with you.
If you ever get too harsh I may release the picture of you and Ryan in your underwear hugging. I had nightmares about that last night...

And I still think King Felix got hosed. But I seemed to be the only one who had faith in him in the first place, so...

But Wainwright had the most 1st place votes! By your logic wouldn't that mean that if not for Carpenter, Wainwright would have won?
Probably, but that doesn't help my point so I ignored it.
