Playoffs - Round 3

I’ve already seen most your predictions and it looks like we think it will be the Steelers and Eagles. After two rounds of predictions, not a one of us got all the games right in either the first or second round. Safe to say either we know absolutely nothing about football, or parity is so high in the NFL that it’s basically 50/50 in each game, and therefore you have a 1/16 chance of guessing the outcomes of 4 games. Odds are, someone will get it right this week, but since no one voted for Ravens/Cardinals I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if that’s who makes it. Let’s pray they don’t.

Baltimore @ Pittsburgh – Probably the most overhyped league championship game since the Patriots and Colts in..’05, this one probably won’t live up to its billing. I think everyone thinks this game will be low scoring and close, with either team having a chance to win. Why not disagree? Steelers 27-10

Philadelphia @ Arizona – It’s safe to say that Arizona ruined the myth that having momentum at the end of the season is what gets you to the Superbowl. This team sputtered down the stretch, losing in blowout fashion to numerous teams. However, they showed what they are capable of doing and now find themselves in a very favorable spot against the #6 seed in the NFC. Stranger things have happened than the Cardinals making it to the Superbowl, but not this year. Too much Jim Johnson and Eagle pass rush/run stop. Brian Dawkins might just break one of Warner’s bones; the debate should be which, not if. Eagles 20-17

My playoff pick record: 3-5

STEELERS vs. RAVENS

Steelers win, but not dominantly. Who liked my willie parker predictions for last week? I was almost spot on until they used him to run out the clock a little on their last scoring drive and made FWP's numbers better than predicted. I see a possible first RB getting 100 yards rushing against the ravens in, what is it, like 1,284 games? I look at this way. Chris Johnson and Willie Parker are almost mirror images of each other when it comes to their running styles. Chris is a little faster, with his 4.24 combine 40-time, and FWP's average of about 4.32. CJ would have gotten that 100 yard mark if he had not gotten hurt in the 2nd quarter and we would probably be playing tennessee right now instead. Both get the corners well and can break one off when the opportunity presents. I think Willie may have better vision between the tackles, which is why I think he will be the first Running back to get over 100 yards in a long time against the ravens, and makes us win the game. I know willie has never run well against the ravens, but he breaks the mold this week.

Stat Predictions:
Big Ben: 240 yards 1 TD, 0 INT's. In fact i think this is a game ben takes care of the ball. He'll get sacked like 4 times tho.

Hines Ward: 95 yards, 1 TD

Willie Parker: 105 yards, 1 TD

Jeff Read: 3/3 FG's, 2XP's

Flacco: 120 yards, 0 Td's, 2 ints. First rookie to take his team to a superbowl after winning 3 straight in the playoffs? Good story, but not this year. His inexperience comes through this weekend.

Team Rushing: 68 yards, 1 TD.

Stover: 2/4 FG's.

STEELERS 23 RAVENS 13

CARDINALS vs EAGLES

Not only do cardinals win this week. They win dominantly...from their defense! We have 2 very experience, veteran QB's in the playoffs. The Cardinals offense is much better than the Eagles. The Eagles defense is better than the Cardinals...usually. I think the cardinals want it more this week. Edge, left the colts at the wrong time (colts won a superbowl the year he signed with the cards), Warner wants to continue to prove people wrong, the cardinals have much better weapons on the offensive side of the ball especially since boldin is likely to play, and the cardinals have had their rookie CB cramartie become lock down in the playoffs meaning that he will be shadowing...wait, the eagles dont' have a go to guy in the passing game, oh well. Westbrook has been broken throughout the playoffs and reports have said he "tweaked" his knee again in practic. Donovan will continue his losing ways in the NFC championship game, and after this week he and andy reid will be 1-4 in the championship game in their career. Sorry Guys. Plus I need the superbowl to be Steelers vs. Cards to have a better chance to win my fantasy. I'm winning right now!

Game Stats:

Warner: 310 yards, 3 TD's 1 int.

Fitzgerald: 120 yards, 2 TD's

Boldin: 48 yards (leaves after reaggrivating injury)

Edge: 75 yards, 1 TD

Rackers: 1/1 FG, 4 XP's

Donovan: 180 yards 1 TD, 3 ints

Westbrook, 50 yrds rushing, 30 receiving, 1 TD

Akers: 2/3 FG, 1 XP

CARDINALS 31 EAGLES 13

Yeah nice job.

I can only make one prediction. I will be at work. My life sucks.

Bill Simmons Pick:

The Pick: Pittsburgh 27, Baltimore 10

Good thing he was 0-4 with his picks last week...really validates mine.

Mel Kiper picked the Steelers, but only because he is a Ravens fan and he said everytime he picks them they lose.

that bastard! Did you guys hear how the mayor of pittsburgh changed their last name for this weekend from ravenstahl to "steelers"stahl due to his namesake rooting for the enemy. I think that's awesome!

I'm going to change my last name too. Kearney sounds too much like "ed reed", so for this weekend, I want you guys to refer to me as Kearnalamalu.

Croyle is too close to Rolle, so you will now be CroFadden. I was going to use William Gay somehow, but CroFadden rolls off the tongue so much better. Obviously Adam shares the same namesake.

Offord is too close to Ayanbadejo, so we're going to call you O'Foote instead. Especially since you're like O'Foote shorter than him.

Forget you Gideon. You and your Giants can go to hell and die. Go to hell and Die! As a matter of fact, take the yankees with you!

Gid can keep the Lakers since Kobe's his cousin

I like the "O-Foote taller" comment...very creative.

Although I would change Kearney Kearnlisberger, and Croyle to Croodley. Maybe Offord to Offreed (jeff reed, not ed reed..nah too confusing).

I lol'd at kern.

yes offord, but...kearney doesn't sound anything like flacco, i hate roethlisberger, and Ayenbadejo means offord in spanish.

I'm fairly sure Ayenbadejo is African...
